Small Rural Community begins their Journey into the Brownfields Redevelopment Process
Plainview, MN

45 W Broadway
Plainview, MN 55964
United States

The small city of Plainview (pop. 3,190) is considering purchase of several properties owned by a large agricultural co-op to redevelop properties to meet housing needs for multi-use, residential multi-family, and/or worker housing.   The agricultural co-op has provided the opportunity for the City to acquire their properties, however, the properties have a long history of agricultural manufacturing operations.   The KSU TAB partner – Minnesota Brownfields – introduced the City to KSU TAB and since that time, TAB has provided a virtual workshop on the Brownfields program to both the City and the Co-Op with a focus on the due diligence needed by the community in acquiring the sites.   KSU TAB facilitated a meeting with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency to inquire about the assessment services provided by the State at no charge to the City.  A Phase I is currently in progress.
