Event Overview:

Join us for the EPA Regions 7 & 8 Tribal Brownfields Workshop, which will bring together Tribal staff from across EPA Regions 7 & 8, U.S. EPA staff, technical assistance providers from Tribal TAB and Regions 7 & 8 TAB, and experts in a variety of topics to strengthen connections and share knowledge among peers. Participants will explore strategies to enhance Tribal Response Programs, learn from the successes and challenges of ongoing brownfields projects, get hands-on assistance with QAPPs, SOP development, and the procurement process, exchange ideas that support long-term environmental and community goals, and so much more! Through interactive discussions and real-world examples, this event will encourage collaboration, mutual learning, and relationship building to advance brownfields work in Indian Country.

This two-day event will take place on September 16 & 17 in Kansas City, Missouri. Please note, while the official workshop activities will begin at 8:30 am on both days, we do invite you to arrive as early as 8:15 am to visit with friends and make yourself comfortable.

Agenda Highlights Include:

  • Cleanup of Large and Complex Sites on Tribal Lands
  • Making the most of Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding in it’s final year
  • Hands-on work sessions for QAPPs, SOPs, and procurement
  • Leveraging BiT for Comprehensive Tribal Response Program Management

Plan Your Stay in KCMO:

  • Hotel Info: Many hotels in the area are unfortunately not offering the government rate the week of this workshop. However, for the time being, the below hotels are offering the government rate and are near Main Street, with nearby access to ride the free KC Steet car to the venue.
    • Crowne Plaza Kansas City Downtown - 1301 Wyandotte Street, Kansas City, Missouri 64105 United States
    • Hampton Inn Kansas City/Downtown Financial District - 801 Walnut St, Kansas City, MO 64106
    • AC Hotel Kansas City Downtown - 906 Grand Boulevard, Kansas City, Missouri 64106 USA
    • Home2 Suites Kansas City Downtown - 2001 Main St, Kansas City, MO 64108
  • Ride KC Street Car: The free KC Streetcar connects all the downtown neighborhoods with 16 platform stops and 2 miles of track along Main Street and can bring you to the workshop location.
  • Locating the Nick Cave Conference Center: inside of the U.S. General Services Administration, Heartland Region; Department of Labor Building at 2300 Main Street, Kansas City, MO 64108.
    • If you walk or use the KC Streetcar, you will likely walk in through the front doors. You should see a front desk to your right when you walk in. Turn Left to walk toward the Nick Cave Conference Center where we will be holding the workshop. The conference center is the last door on the left in a large open atrium with open meeting spaces and seating.
    • If you drive and use the on-site parking garage, you will enter from one of three levels. Go straight to the elevators and head to the lobby. There are several elevators, so upon exiting the elevator in the lobby, look for the front desk by the main doors. If you are facing the main entrance, with the front desk to your left, you will turn right to walk toward the Nick Cave Conference Center where we will be holding the workshop. The conference center is the last door on the left in a large open atrium with open meeting spaces and seating.
  • Parking Garage at the Event: Card only. Half hour to one hour is $5, increasing rate up to the 24-hour maximum rate of $15 after 2 and a half hours.
  • Union Station Kansas City: Transportation and entertainment hub located a short distance from the workshop location.
