EGLE Act 381 Brownfield Tax Increment Financing

State Funding & Resources

Developers of brownfield sites can be reimbursed for eligible environmental costs with their own property taxes. When a contaminated property is redeveloped and results in higher property values, local brownfield redevelopment authorities (BRAs) may approve reimbursement from the difference between taxes on the base value and taxes on the new value. Contact Dan Gough at 517-281-8253 or GoughD1@michigan.gov to learn more. For project specific questions, download the attached document and contact the appropriate regional brownfield coordinator.
