Do you have a brownfield or closed landfill in your community that you’d like to reuse to host clean energy? Interested in learning how to prepare for EPA brownfields grants and other federal funding to deploy “brightfields”? Join Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) and KSU TAB for our Brightfields Academy this fall – a 4-part series of virtual workshops. RMI’s Brightfields Accelerator supports local governments, Tribes, and communities who want to reactivate their brownfields and landfills by providing technical assistance to install clean energy.
The Brightfields Academy is intended for public and other non-profit site owners in EPA Regions 5, 6, 7, and 8. Tribal participants from across all 10 EPA Regions are welcome to attend. Prior knowledge or having specific sites in mind for development are beneficial but not required.
What to Expect - This interactive workshop series is designed to:
- Provide a foundational understanding of brightfields;
- Help communities and site owners evaluate brownfield site feasibility for clean energy use;
- Offer strategies and tools for incorporating clean energy reuse into EPA brownfields grants; and,
- Explore funding and financing opportunities for advancing brightfields beyond EPA brownfields grants.
Workshop 1 - Introduction to Brightfields & EPA Brownfield Grants: overview of transforming brownfields into brightfields, including potentials, opportunities, and challenges. Held 09/12/2024
Workshop 2 - Evaluating Brownfield Site Feasibility for Clean Energy Reuse: How to assess site feasibility for brightfields including tools available to evaluate reuse for clean energy technologies. Held 09/26/2024
Workshop 3 - Strategically Integrating Brightfields into Brownfields Grants Applications Part I: Equip participants with the skills to strategically integrate renewables into funding applications with an emphasis on EPA Brownfields Grants. Held 10/22/2024
Workshop 4 - Strategically Integrating Brightfields into Brownfields Grants Applications Part II: Equip participants with the skills to strategically integrate renewables into funding applications with an emphasis on EPA Brownfields Grants. Held 11/07/2024
Workshop 5 - Understanding Funding and Financing Opportunities for Brightfields: Guided tour through an array of available funding and financing opportunities and project stacking strategies for brightfields. Held 12/10/2024
