Hello, Community Leaders, Planners, and Economic Development Stakeholders!

Does your community have unused buildings, old gas stations, or other potentially contaminated properties impeding future economic growth? Are you concerned these sites may be negatively impacting health and the quality of life in your neighborhoods? Do you look at these properties and wonder how you might bring them back to productive use?

This workshop will be hosted by Texas House Representatives Janie Lopez, Ryan Guillen, and John Lujan, and the Kansas State University - Technical Assistance to Brownfields Program (KSU TAB). Workshop participants will hear about:

• What a brownfield is (and is not);
• State and federal financial resources available to address brownfields;
• How to include brownfields redevelopment in community revitalization; and,
• Local redevelopment case studies.

Who should attend? Local and regional government officials, economic and community development organizations, lenders and real-estate professionals, non-profits, property owners, and anyone interested in learning about brownfields and financial resources for local redevelopment.

This workshop is free, but registration is required!

Space is limited, so please be sure to secure your spot by clicking on the Register button above.

Event Location Safety and Rules:

  • Temperatures in the Laguna Vista area in late June can be over 100 degrees. Please prepare accordingly, especially if you plan to tour the South Texas Ecotourism Center. Drink plenty of water, wear appropriate clothing, use sunscreen, and seek air conditioning when feeling overheated.
  • The South Texas Ecotourism Center (STEC) is located on a wildlife preserve where many wildlife animals (rattlesnakes, scorpions, coyotes, and spiders) make their habitat.  Please be aware of the wildlife and follow all warning signs regarding wildlife on the premises.
  • Smoking is strictly prohibited indoors and outdoors of STEC.
  • No pets, other than certified service animals, are allowed on the STEC premises.
